I ordered, installed, and complained about the $120 handguards not fitting. They told me I ordered the wrong part. Nothing on the website listed 2018, so I assumed earlier years would work.
They recommended five different parts. Two didn't include the hand rails at all. Two others supposedly fit the same years that the ones I ordered fit, so I was suspicious about those. I ordered the $100 set of handguards.
When I took one of the $120 handguards off, I noticed that there was an “L” on the bracket that mounts to the handlebar. I had taken off the right handguard. I found an “R” on the other bracket.
Originally, I didn’t notice that the brackets are just a little cone shaped where they contact the handlebar. Nor did I notice the R or L. Nor did I see any reference in the instructions to there being a right or left.
Once I switched the brackets, they fit on the handlebar. The handguard bar doesn’t mount exactly flush with the mounting bracket, but close enough.
Because of the way they’re designed, I think the $100 set would have fit better because they’re adjustable, but I don’t think they would have been quite as strong. Two bolts holding bracket on the handlebar vs. four. Knowing what I know now, I would have ordered the $100 set.
I don’t think there was anything in the instructions of the original handguards about there being a right and left. The ‘coning’ is pretty hard to see. For sure, the $100 set says nothing about a right and left bracket and it has the same coning with an R and L.
