After much shopping on website, I ordered handguards for my new 2018 KTM500 EXC-F. Since no 2018s were listed, I picked fitment for the 2017, which I assumed was the same for my 2018, since they'd updated the model in 2017.
The clamps didn't fit right, but you can only tell this AFTER you mount them. The bars require the clamps to be on the center part of the handlebar that necks up to a larger diameter. It can't clamp around BOTH a large and small diameter tube. It should be either on the smaller diameter OR the larger diameter part of the handlebar, or be tooled to handle the diameter change, but it's not. The clamp is tooled to be on the large diameter..
I explained the problem to KTM Twinds and asked, now what? Here's the response:
'Well, thats sorta unsurprising here. We didn't have them advertised for the 2018 500 EXC - only up to 2016.
In fact, I did a double check and did have to roll back some fitment years to 2015/2016, but overall the issue was the same. You picked up some handguards that weren't meant to fit the bike.
"We might be able to do a return here. What condition are these in? I sense they must be opened, but I'm most concerned about installation marks. I won't be able to help out on a return if they're marked and considered used..
"Let me know,"
I responded by asking what should I have purchased? What do they recommend I do? No answer now for days.
Not only is my problem with the product unresolved, I don't even have an answer as to how to order the right part! And on top of that, I get this unprofessional, smart ass response.
If these guys don't help me out on this, I don't know why I or anyone else would order anything from them.
If I do get a positive response, I'll send in another review, but as of now, this will be the last time I deal with these guys and will be telling all my buddies about my experience.
